The Beginning

Our history goes back to 1982 when the San Francisco Association of Athletic Coaches and Physical Education Teachers approached the “Venerables,” a group of current and retired coaches, former athletes, and sports enthusiasts to put forward an idea for a SAN FRANCISCO PREP HALL OF FAME. Their motivation for the hall was to create a platform that recognizes and celebrates those who rose to the top of the high school sports scene at their respective high schools.

The idea was met with much appreciation and enthusiasm. Immediately a committee of fifteen volunteers began organizing the SAN FRANCISCO PREP HALL OF FAME.

A Look at Where We are Now

From 1982 until the present we have inducted 374 individuals who have left a lasting and indelible mark in the San Francisco prep sports scene, from 1914 onwards. Our Board of Directors, all volunteers, and the general public continue to contribute their time and effort towards this project every year, adding more talent to the list.

The committee works with just one goal: to acknowledge and show regards to everyone associated with the SAN FRANCISCO PREP HALL OF FAME. Institutions, schools, alumni associations, the Venerables, along with the general public halve all contributed to our success, and are all greatly appreciated by the SAN FRANCISCO PREP HALL OF FAME.

The Elwood “China” Lang Scholarships

One of the many ways we go about supporting San Francisco’s prep sports athletes is by annually presenting a scholarship to one male and one female graduating scholar-athlete fro the Public and/or Private or Parochial High Schools of San Francisco. The SAN FRANCISCO PREP HALL OF FAME has been awarding scholarships since 1993. This is all thanks to our sponsors and the effort of our Board of Directors, who work hard each year to help support two talented and deserving student athletes, as they continue with their higher education.

This is one of the stances that we take to celebrate the importance and bravado of our local prep sports heroes. We are pleased that each year many individuals join us in our efforts by supporting and volunteering their time to honor and commemorate great sportsmanship.

Want to Donate to the Elwood “China” Lang Memorial Scholarships?

The SAN FRANCISCO PREP HALL OF FAME recognizes each individual’s contribution towards this labor of love. Whether you have been with us since the beginning or have donated just once, we are immensely grateful for the difference you have made to our efforts.

Our special thanks goes out to the sixteen Board of Directors who tirelessly work to memorialize the stellar work of the San Francisco prep women and men who have made a lasting contribution to San Francisco High School Athletics.
