Meet the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

Directors are selected based on their contribution over the years to San Francisco Prep Athletics. Every October the Board of Directors meets and reviews over 50 applications and listens to nomination speeches from the SF community.

The Board meets again in November to vote on the eight successful nominees. Each inductee must receive 75% of the Board of Directors vote to be inducted. Successful inductees are informed of the honor prior to Thanksgiving.

Board of Directors

Gary Bader

Gary is a native San Franciscan. He is a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. Gary is retired, yet is employed by the San Francisco Giants Guest Services.

He is a Past President of the San Francisco Baseball Old Timers, and a Past President of the Old Times Athletes Association. His volunteer activities include Public Address Announcer for the Abraham Lincoln High School Football Team, and Boys and Girls Basketball Teams, Announcer for City College of San Francisco’s Football Team and Women’s Basketball Team.

Gary is married to wife Judy for 55 years. He has two children and four grandchildren. He attends most of his granddaughter’s high school varsity Soccer games.

Marc Christensen

Marc Christensen is a third generation San Franciscan.

Marc is proud of his 67 year association with the San Francisco Unified School District, as student 1951 to 1964, as a playground and night gym director 1966 to 1972, as a teacher 1970 to 2008, as a mentor-teacher 1992 to 2010, and as a coach 1970 to the present (completed 49 years).

Marc served on the executive board of the San Francisco Association of Athletic Coaches and Physical Education Teachers until recently for over 46 years, as well as serving as vice-president for four years, president for twenty-two years, and treasurer for twenty years. Marc has been a strong advocate for maintaining a strong middle school and high school sports programs throughout San Francisco.

Marc is co-founder (in 1982) and executive board member of the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame. He has served on the board since its inception in 1982, and he has held the office of vice-president from 1990 to 1998, and president from 1998 to the present. Marc was inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame as a coach in 2007. Marc Christensen continues to be a leader and in service for numerous organizations throughout San Francisco.

Don Collins

Commissioner of Athletics
Donald C. Collins is the Commissioner of Athletics for the CIF San Francisco Section and the AAA Athletic League.

Collins also serves as a sports consultant, working with the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO).  Collins has advised sports officials and officials associations across the country.  He has also published over 100 articles on sports administration, sports officiating, legal issues affecting sports officials, and sportsmanship.

Collins has worked with teams of officials who have worked on sports officials’ independent contractor legislation; indeed, Collins drafted model independent contractor language enacted in multiple states.

Collins is an attorney.  He has taught legal writing at the Hofstra University Law School .  Collins also has taught in the paralegal program at Sonoma State University while assisting in the compliance office of the Sonoma State Athletic Department.  Collins also served a five year term as a staff attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco.

Collins also is a long-time sports official.  He is a member of the USA Track and Field, Pacific Association .  He has officiated numerous CIF State track championships, has served as head officials for the para-shot put at numerous CIF State championships, and has officiated at the US Paralympic National Track and Field Championships.

Steve Franceschi

Steve was born and raised in San Francisco and attended Balboa High School graduating in 1966. He was an All-City baseball player and continued his education and baseball career at the University of Pacific graduating in 1970. A highlight of his college days was a perfect game he threw in 1968.

After his college career ended he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants and pitched minor league ball for that organization. After his pro career ended Steve returned to the city and has spent the last 43 years teaching and coaching at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. Steve also spent 10 years coaching at the college level at USF, SF State and Sonoma State and spent his final year at SF State as the Head Coach. Steve is the Founder and Director of the SHC Hall of Fame Baseball Academy, a summer baseball camp for kids 8-14, for the past 31 years.

Steve has been honored and privileged to be a part of five Halls of Fame including the prestigious SF Prep Hall of Fame. Steve has been married to his wife Rose. They have two children and four grandchildren.

Jamie Hayes

Jamie Hayes is a native San Franciscan. She has been a member of the San

Francisco Prep Hall of Fame board since 2011. She was inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame in 2006 as athlete in basketball and softball..

Jamie has spent the past twenty years in athletics as a coach, and as an
Athletic Director in San Francisco.

Bob Lee

Prep HOF Board Member 14 years. Graduated from Lowell S’63; University of the Pacific S’68; MA UOP, S’71. Also served as UOP’s Athletic Director, 1991-1996, leading the department back to financial stability & into compliance with Title IX, regarding gender equity. Bob served as a substitute teacher, SFUSD, for three years, while also attaining his Real Estate License. He taught 1/2 a class load at CCSF for three off seasons while pursuing his NFL career. Has owned and operated his own company, Legion Properties Brokerage, since 1979.

Bob played in the NFL for 13 seasons. He became Rookie of the Year with the Vikings 1st Super Bowl team, and MVP of the 1973 Atlanta Falcons, becoming the 1st player in club history to be awarded both the MVP and the Team Award for leadership in the same year.

Bob was Inducted into the inaugural classes of: Lowell Hall of Fame;
UOP Hall of Fame. Also inducted into the SF Prep HOF, & the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame. One of 13 people selected, (2007), to receive the Distinguished American Award in the 57 year history of the NorCal Chapter of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.

John LeTourneau

John grew up in the Richmond District of San Francisco, having attended St. Monica’s School, and George Washington High School. While at Washington, John played basketball on the 130’s exponent team, and two years on the Varsity Basketball team.

After graduation, in 1965, he attended City College of San Francisco before transferring to San Jose State, where he played on countless intramural teams in a variety of sports. John graduated with a degree in Recreation, in 1971, where he began his 38-year career with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, where the majority of his duties were in supervising the Athletic Division.

John is married with three daughters and two grandchildren.

Dick Morosi

In 1961 Dick Morosi was first team all-city shortstop, from Sacred Heart High, in all San Francisco newspapers and was first team All Catholic in the Monitor newspaper. He’s in the SHCP Sports’ Hall of Fame.

Dick played four years first string varsity baseball at St. Mary’s College where he received a B.A( history) and later a Master’s Degree(history) and a teaching credential from USF.

Dick worked 43  years in secondary education as a teacher and administrator, retiring as a principal.

Dick has two daughters, a grandson and enjoys time with family and friends, exercising and reading.

Jon Nakamura

Jon serves as the SFPHOF’s Treasurer and the Chair of the Scholarship Committee. Jon was born and raised in San Francisco and is a graduate of George Washington High School, the University of Southern California, and UC Hasting College of the Law. Jon and his wife Betsy reside in San Rafael.

George Noceti

George Noceti has been a CYO Basketball, Baseball, and Girls Track Coach as well as a SF Grammar School Athletic Director and a Bay Area High School Football Coach.

He is currently a Family Wealth Advisor at Morgan Stanley and continues to support non-profits through Board representation and fund raising.

Barbara Prato

Barbara is a graduate of San Francisco State University. She was a physical education teacher and counselor at Lowell High School for 40 years. Barbara was The Girls’ Tennis Coach for 27 years, the Boys’ Tennis Coach for two years, and Lowell’s Athletic Director for 12 years.

Prior to Title IX, for many years, Barbara sponsored the GAA and Block L programs, while serving as the girls’ Physical Education Department Head.

Barbara has served on the SFPHOF Executive Board for 24 years. She enjoys her retirement with, travel, theatre, bowling, and visiting with friends and family.

Barbara was inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame in 2017.

Tony Ribera

Tony Ribera graduated from George Washington High in 1963, and City College in 1966. He went on to serve two years in the Army, including a tour in Vietnam. After his discharge, he went directly into the SFPD. He served 28 years, retiring as the Chief of Police in 1996. During his career, he had the opportunity to go back to school on the G.I.Bill. He received his Ph.D. in 1987.

Shortly after retiring from the PD Tony accepted a position at the University of San Francisco teaching criminal justice and public administration.

Tony was inducted into the Washington Hall of Merit in 1993 and the Washington Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. He was appointed to the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame Board of Directors in 2015.

Joseph Rodriquez

Born and raised in the City, Joe is a graduate of Balboa High School and is the Balboa Alumni Association’s sports historian. A prolific sports writer, he contributes regularly to the Alumni newsletter.

Joe is the 3rd longest serving member of the Prep Hall of Fame and has served as its secretary for 22 years while also serving as its media outreach person.

His forte is the ability to recall big games, scores and athletic greats from San Francisco’s rich high school athletic history.

Professionally, he is a Customs broker and President of Hoyt, Shepston, Inc.

Jack Scramaglia

Jack was born and raised in San Francisco. He attended Saint Ignatius High School, 1951-55. He played Varsity Baseball for four years, and was All-City first team for two years, at 2nd base. He played in the 1955 Examiner All-Star Game and won a trip to New York to play in the United States All-Star Game.

In 1956, Jack went to Menlo Junior College, where he continued to play baseball. He transferred to the University of San Francisco in 1957, playing one year of baseball. In 1958, Jack signed with the San Francisco Giants.

He was signed by scout Eddie Montague, who had also signed Willie Mays. Jack went on to play baseball in the California State League. He was only one of two rookies to be chosen to the All-Star team. He continued his baseball career at Springfield and Eugene.

In 1961, jack retired from baseball and became a teacher for the San Francisco Unified School District. Jack retired in 1998. He was inducted into the San Francico Prep Hall of Fame in 1997.

Alison Vidal

Alison Vidal was born and raised in San Francisco and was a three sport athlete at Washington High School (tennis, cross country and softball). She attended UC Davis and was a four time All-American in tennis and part of the National Championship Tennis Team in 1990.

She was inducted into the Washington Hall of Fame, San Francisco, Prep Hall of Fame (first Father/Daughter inductee with her dad Albert Vidal), UC Davis Athletic Hall of Fame and recognized as outstanding athlete in the Sacramento Hall of Fame. She continued her love of sports into a professional career in sports management working for the San Francisco Giants, Monster Cable, California Collegiate Athletic Association, Comcast Spotlight in their sports division and currently oversees all Community Development and Partnerships for the United States Tennis Association /Northern California.

In her free time she enjoys coaching all sports for her daughter Alyssa and spending time with her husband Steve as well as continuing to play competitive tennis.

Carrie Wert

Carrie Wert has been a physical education teacher at George Washington High School since 1985. She served as the Athletic Director for two years, and is currently the Physical Education Department Chair.

She has coached Girls’ varisty Volleyball for over twenty years, and the Girls’ Varsity Softball Team for over 32 years. During that time, Washington has won 10 Softball City and Transbay Championships.

Carrie has been inducted into the GWHS Hall of Fame for her coaching successes. One of here most proud moments was being inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame in 2007.

She has loved being a teacher and coach for over three decades.
