Stan Stewart was raised in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley, and The Richmond District. He attended George Washington High School where he was an outstanding swimmer and basketball player. As a swimmer he led Washington’s varsity to a City Championship, taking All City honors with a first place in the 100 yard backstroke.
As a basketball player he excelled as an All City lightweight, being called up to varsity his senior year where he made the all-tournament team in the Tournament of Champions. He went on to excel in basketball at St. Mary’s. After graduation he became a teacher and basketball coach in the City. He was name SF Coach of the year at Sacred Heart in 1961, also Coach of the Year at Lowell in 1965. Stan and his wife Rita are retired and live in Tiburon.
